Forging
The forging operations of MFC offer the flexibility to meet
both the medium and high-volume parts needs of customers.
We can produce parts from the full range of carbon, alloy
and microalloy steels, in diverse shapes and sizes from one
to 100 pounds.
At MFC, all bars are automatically pre-heated by an induction
coil preheat system prior to shearing. This minimizes the
possibility of shear cracking. To ensure uniform controlled
heating of billets at the forging press, we use electric induction
heating. This reduces scale formation, improving the surface
quality of forgings and extending die life.
With the development of Virginia
Forge Company, our capabilities now include the most advanced,
highly pro- ductive vertical press operation in the country.
With point-to-point transfer that utilizes a fully automated
walking beam, the 2,500-ton, five-station press will produce
parts at the rate of one every two seconds.
To enhance productivity and control costs, we're continuously
changing and refining forging techniques and processes to
reduce set-up time on presses. At every possible opportunity,
automation is also introduced to eliminate manual processing
and the associated costs.
